Testimonies

I was born in St.Petersburg, Russia, in atheistic family. My mother divorced my father when I was 12 and after that, I preferred to spend much time on the streets. In 6th grade, I was expelled from school and I never came back. I started drinking, indulged in wild life, began to steal and I got to prison. There in the prison, I began to use drugs and I continued it after the prison term. I tried to quit many times, but never could. My biggest pain was my ever crying mother, who used to say: “If you will be killed, I would weep one last time instead of crying my heart out every day…” Twenty (!) times I went through different types of treatment –from the most expensive to the mental treatment facilities, but they did not help. My grandma had the apartment in Lugansk and I decided to…
My name is Valeri. I am from Kiev. I am the third child in the family. My mother was 41 when I was born. Mom and Dad both worked and I grew up at the streets. One time I had to choose to study in a sport school playing soccer or in a regular school selecting my own curriculum. I chose latter thinking I found “freedom” and soon experienced the consequences. At the age of 12 Police added me to their alert records. I was a thief, drank, smoke. Later I tried the cannabis and I was sold to it instantly. Almost two years I played with the sin in nice wrapping. VIP Clubs and bars… Then my sin led me to so much less shiny life, I stole from my relatives, lived in dens. Quarrels and scandals all the time. I got sick, had to serve the prison term. …
May you have the great day full of wonders. My name is Viktoria. I was convicted six times for different crimes. For many years I was addicted to alcohol and drugs. My lifestyle ruined many lives including my own. Now it is the thing of the past. I am 38 years old and I have Jesus in my life. Praise be to Him. God found me in 2009 in the detention facility in the city of Simferopol (Crimea). Police imprisoned me for beating another person causing heavy injuries. I have very vague memories about that incident. I clearly remember that it became the turning point for me. I ruined all I treasured and I did it with my own hands. Family, kinfolk – all turned away from me. More than that – I had no any chance to have it back. No hope. Finite… It did not happen overnight. It…
My name is Svetlana. I am 47 and I lived in Donetsk region. I was drug addict for 8 years. I tried just for fun, and then drugs became the reason I live. I lost my job. However, I still needed money to buy drugs and I was cheating everyone including my family to get money for drugs. It was the dead circle every day – cheating-money-drugs. Finally, my three kids found out that I am a drug addict. The conflict was huge. I abandoned my kids and my mother had to care for them. I lived in haunts for a time, and then returned home when my body began to deteriorate from drugs. I became dystrophic; my weight was 32 kg and my height is 164 cm. (65 pounds at 5’5” height). I needed urgent surgery, but there was no money for it. Therefore, my daughter and her husband…
My name is Natasha. I am 35. I was born in a wealthy and decent family. Parents loved me and never said no to me. It did not spoil me; I was a sensible and modest kid. I did well at school and raised many hopes in my parents. When I became older, I met my love, which every girl desires. At 19, I became the mother of a baby boy. Later we broke with the father of the boy and that was for me the “catastrophe” of my entire life. I was really broken and hopeless. It seemed that life has no sense. That time I met my new “friends” who were on drugs. I tried drugs and felt that life become bearable, problems varnished, I did not worry about anything. Life became great. This feeling ceased when I received a prison term for drugs. After I finished this…
The story of God’s saving work in him. Vladimir (Vova) tells his story. I am from the prosperous family. Parents brought me up in a right way and invested themselves in me. In the third grade, I decided that I will become the gangster, because I desired to be like the guys from senior school. That was my “wise and weighted” decision. At 14 police was after me and I was arrested for different reasons. Court initiated criminal case against me. Our gang was a bunch of robbers and thieves who did much harm. I was convicted to the term in prison. At 16, I was in prison twice. There I started to use drugs. I did not get the catch of it so I did not use them that time. Being released from the prison, I visited my friends. They were drug dealers and I got the direct access…
My parents are highly educated people. They read a lot. During communist times, they were collecting paper to exchange it for the books. My mom constantly repeated to me – read the books! At the age of 16, I read (by her recommendation) the book by Oscar Wilde “The picture of Dorian Gray”. One of scenes in the book is when young man, the main hero, meets two persons – one represent light and another – darkness. I understood that I have two paths and began to ponder, which way is mine. Later I was called to the compulsory Army service. There was the time of the war in Afghanistan. Many freshmen and I were afraid where the Army will send us to serve. My cousin Yuri who is my friend and who is two years older than I am came to the recruiting station to wish me safety. In…
My story started even before I was born. When my mother got pregnant with me, she wanted to make an abortion, because she was forty, my father was forty-six. They had two grown up children and decided that they do not need me. Right before her visit to the doctor, my mother had the dream – child carrying the loaf of bread. Being pragmatic person, she decided that I am that child who will give her bread at her old age. That is why I was born. Real life was different – I became drug addict when I was young and that brought distress, disgrace and constant problems to the family. These problems lead my mother to accept Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord. She received the bread from above and this bead came by the way of trials and hardships. She was baptized and later died. That time…
My name is Konstantin (Kostya) and I want to share with you how I quit drugs. I grew in a normal family. I had mom and stepfather. Studied in a regular school. Had friends like most other people. And guess what – I became the slave of the drugs when I was a kid. First time I injected it when I was 13. At the age of 16, I was addicted to heroin and tried to quit through the therapy in narco-dispensary. At the age of 17 I was convicted and got my first sentence. I was in prison three times and went through anti-drugs therapy more than 30 (!) times. 3 times I was in coma and was attached to the breathing machine: one time because of alcohol overdose and twice because of the sleeping pills overdose mixed with alcohol. Parents provided all sorts of therapy for me –…
Gregory Kovnatskiy At school, I studied poorly and in the middle school, I made a decision that I will make my living following dishonest ways. At the fifth and sixth grades, my friends and I became the nightmare for the schoolkids, taking away their money. However, the violence did not appeal to me and I started learning to trick my schoolmates cheating them into giving me money. At the age of 16 I became the convicted swindler. At 20 I understood that such life does not attract me, I understood that I have to change something and began to ask myself questions – why do I live? What will be when my life will end? What is the meaning of life? I could not find answers to these questions. That time I tried the heroin and one year later, I became the drug addict. I always had money, my circle…
“I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death” (Psalm 118:17, 18). I grew on the streets. Since early childhood, I ran from home, because I did wrong things and my father was very cruel and was beating me severely. There were periods even of 6 months that I did not live home – my habitat was at the attics or at the basements of buildings. Such life brought me to the prison when I was seventeen. I was sentences for the robbery and ordered to stay in the strictest prison. I want to give all the glory to God. That is why I will share the details of my past life for that purpose. This will help you understand from how deep a pit God delivered me. One of…
